How Can stabbing Pain In The Chest And Shoulder Be Treated?
I m a 21 yowf who fell on left shoulder after falling from bike about 1.5 wks ago. Felt fine for the most part, expect every time I would go for a run, I would feel achy (not a sharp stabbing pain) in my left shoulder/chest/under-arm area. I would lso feel a sharp pain if I was laying down and lifted my head (such as to do a sit-up). I just tried pulling off on of my compression socks when I felt a sharp stabbing pain radiate through my left side. Now it hurts to breath, and certain rotations of the arm hurt the arm. Is is a bone or a muscle problem? I have a feeling I might have torn a muscle and now there s inflammation... but now sure
By your history and description, the possibility of muscular injury is more likely. In my opinion, you should follow these steps for better symptomatic relief.
1. Apply warm water pad on affected areas of shoulder and chest.
2. Avoid sudden jerky movements of the shoulder.
3. Avoid heavyweight lifting and strenuous exercise.
4. Take painkiller and muscle relaxant drugs like Ibuprofen and Thiocolchicoside.
Don't worry, you will be alright with all these in 2-3 days.
If not improving then consult an orthopedic doctor and get done a clinical examination and MRI of the shoulder joint.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Kaushal Bhavsar,
